Managing your finances as a freelancer may, at first, seem like a daunting and impossible task, but with today’s technology, even balancing your checkbook can be made easy. Here are some ways to manage yours:

  • Try an online budget planner. You can find free budget planners that take the stress out of budgeting. You can learn how to budget as well as get ready for your taxes online.
  • Do some study on your own either from websites, blogs, or books; learn about finance and stick to the budget you set for yourself.
  • Ask questions of the experts. Don’t be afraid to make a phone call or to shoot an e-mail to someone who knows more than you do.
  • Purchase some finance software. Most companies offer a free trial period.
  • Keep in mind that you will have low months and high months. Put away the extra money you make to take care of those expected low months. Save your money in a prepaid visa card. That way, when a month leaves you with a bit less than you expected, you can pull the funds you need.
  • Don’t be afraid to get help if you need it. An accountant who knows his or her stuff will save you some headache and mistakes if you’re really unsure of how to best manage your finances.

Managing your finances as a freelancer doesn’t have to be a trick, and it can be a sure-fire treat when you discover how often your account appears in the black.
